Shamus Award Mare Captures the Bow Mistress Stakes

Mark Smith - Sunday February 7

Carrying the colours made famous by her Cox Plate winning sire Shamus Award, Ethical Solution made thrip across Bass Strait worthwhile by capturing the Group III Kevin Sharkie Bow Mistress (1200m) at Hobart.

Ridden by Joe Bowditch for trainer Lloyd Kennewell, Ethical Solution looked in danger of securing a run at the 300 metres.

Bowdich found a narrow seam and Ethical Solution was strong to the line in defeating the Street boss (USA) mare Street Icon by two lengths with a further four and a quarter lengths back to the veteran Sebring mare Runaway Girl in third.

The first stakes success for Ethical Solution advances her record to six two two from 16 starts with earnings of $217,405.

Golden Grove Stud Farm bred the 4yo daughter of Shamus Award.

She is the best of three winners from five to race out of the South African Group III winner Miss Ethics (SAF).

A daughter of the Zafonic stallion Count Dubois, Miss Ethics has an unraced 2yo sister to Ethical Solution named Ethical Award and she has a colt foal by Shamus Ward.

Ethical Solution becomes the 10th stakes-winner for Shamus Award who now stands at Rosemont Stud after beginning his career at Widden.
