Probabeel a Class Above in the Geoffrey Bellmaine Stakes

Mark Smith - Saturday February 6

The Jamie Richards trained Probabeel launched her autumn campaign with a typical profession performance in Saturday's Group III Geoffrey Bellmaine Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield.

Carrying top-weight of 60kg, the 4yo daughter of Savabeel overcame a wide run to defeat Paul's Regret (Canford Cliffs) by one and a quarter lengths with Snapdancer (Choisir) three-quarters of a length back in third.

Winning rider Damian Lane said the addition of blinkers had sparked her up after an indifferent barrier trial.

"Her trial was just fair without the blinkers and Jamie assured me that is how she can go," Lane said.

"I watched some of her previous trials in previous preparations and that is how it looked.

"I wanted to ride her quietly as I thought there would be a lot more speed than what eventuated. Down the side, I thought I would be doing more harm than good by going back, so I let her slide and she was just too good for them."

Stable representative Brad Taylor said it was all systems go to the $5 million All-Star Mile.

"The number one target for her now is the All-Star Mile. The voting for her is going pretty well at the moment," Taylor said.

"I think she is the only Kiwi left in the All-Star Mile, so New Zealand is behind her."

Winner of the Group 1 ATC Epsom Handicap at Randwick last spring, Probabeel advances her record to nine wins and six seconds from 20 starts with earnings of $2,567,978.

Sporting the silks of Brendon and Jo Lindsay's Cambridge Stud, Probabeel was Purchased by David Ellis for $380,000 out of the Waikato Stud draft at the 2018 NZB Karaka Yearling Sale.

Probabeel was a $380,000 Karaka yearling

She is the only foal of the stakes-placed Pins mare Far Fetched who died at the age of seven in 2017.

Far Fetched a three-quarter sister to Group II MRC Thousand Guineas Prelude and Group III Manfred Stakes winner Legless Veuve and the Group III MRC Mannerism Stakes winner and Group 1 WRC Telegraph Hcp runner-up Tootsie.

Savabeel was the second stakes-winner on the day to be bred on the Savabeel – Pins cross.

The 2yo filly Tilianam kept her record at two for when winning the Listed Lonhro Plate at Randwick.
