The Elanora Continues On His Winning Way

Mark Smith - Saturday December 26

Royally-bred colt The Elanora has the talent to match his pedigree; however, Redoute's Choice's son still has a bit to learn.

Ridden by Glen Boss for trainer Chris Waller, the John Singleton homebred made it more challenging than it needed to be when landing Saturday's $250,000 Group III Mullins Lawyers Grand Prix Stakes (2200m) at Eagle Farm.

Boss was looking around for dangers at the 300 metres but was forced to get serious when The Elanora began to lug out.

It was a battle to get his mind back on the job but when he did he safely held the Fastnet Rock colt Toscanini by one and a quarter lengths with a further short-neck back to the Dundeel colt  Atonement in third.

Winner of the Group III NJC Spring Stakes at Newcastle on November 14, The Elanora advances his record to four wins and a second from six starts with earnings of $342,215.

Stable representative Paul Shailer said he did not know if there was anything left for The Elanora this time in.

"Chris didn't tie Glen down with any instructions. He just left him to it, and Glen summed it up from a very tricky gate, crossed them and ended up in a lovely spot," Shailer said.

"The horse relaxed beautifully, and if anything, he dragged himself into the race too soon and hit the front too early.

"He was a little vulnerable late as he was having a good look around, was a little bit wayward and would be better chasing.

"He is a class animal and will go on to bigger and better things."

Bred by Singleton's Strawberry Hill Stud, The Elanora is the second winner from as many foals out of the More Than Ready (USA) mare Yesterjoy.

A three-quarter sister to the champion More Joyous and Group III winner War, Yesterjoy is out of 4-time Group 1 winner Tuesday Joy (Carnegie).

Yesterjoy has a yearling filly by Lonhro and foaled a Pierro colt on November 3.

The final crop of yearlings by Redoute’s Choice head to the sales in 2021 with six colts and four fillies on offer at the Gold Coast in January..

The late, great Redoute's Choice
