With Damien Oliver in the saddle, the James cummings-trained filly was strong to the line in defeating the Snitzel filly Crazy Ladies by a length with the Zoustar colt Sunfall a length and a quarter back in third.

“She had been pretty straightforward up until today," Oliver said.

"She got a bit lost, but I like the way she responded, and it was a good, tough effort.

“She was a bit new but will take a lot from that.”

Picarones is the second winner from as many to race out of the General Nediym mare Anise whose seven wins included the Group III ATC Kindergarten Stakes.

Purchased by Darley for $600,000 at the 2010 Easter Yearling Sale, Anise is a daughter of the Flying Spur mare Pimpinella.

Crevette is the dam of dual Group 1 winner Cosmic Endeavour a daughter of Shooting To Win’s sire Northern Meteor.

This is the family nurtured by Stanley Wooten and his daughter Catherine Remond.

Pimpinella is a daughter 1990 Group II VRC Edward Manifold Stakes-winner Twiglet (Twig Moss) who was honoured as the 2001 Australian Broodmare Of The Year.

Anise has a yearling filly by Epaulette and was not covered last year.
