Horses to follow from Moonee Valley September 9

Brad Waters - Monday September 11

There was plenty of action at Moonee Valley on Saturday but the meeting also produced a few runners to follow in the coming weeks.

TRINITY HILL

She is hard-fit after competing through the winter but there could be a win for Trinity Hill in a minor race in the next few weeks after her effort at Moonee Valley. Trinity Hill has solid form over a mile but competed in shorter races in the lead-up to her Moonee Valley outing. The daughter of Iffraaj drew barrier 10 and was caught wide near the speed from the outset. She was entitled to tire in the BM84 contest but stuck on well to finished 1 ¼ lengths from the smart winner Samovare. She can drop back in grade and pick up a midweek race in the coming weeks.

Career record 17:3-3-2.

Race to look for – BM70 or BM78 races over 1600m.

LYCURGUS

This bloke won't be in the Caulfield or Melbourne Cups but Lycurgus can win a staying race or two this time in. Lycurgus was a strong Kyneton winner over 1875m in March before stepping up to 2400m for a good win in Listed company at Caulfield in his three-year-old season. Lycurgus found them a touch too slick early before beginning to circle the field from the 600m. He was out wide on the home turn before stretching out well in the straight to get within 1 ¾ lengths from the winner Ebediyin. He needs things to go his way to win races but he will be ready to show something once he gets out beyond 2000m.

Career record (16:3-0-2).

Race to look for – BM78 or BM84 races over 2000m & further.

KEEN ARRAY

Not much went right for Keen Array from the draw but the son of Bel Esprit indicated he was ready to win with his effort behind Brave Smash at Moonee Valley on Saturday. Drawing barrier 11 consigned jockey Mark Zahra to taking Keen Array back to get in but the gelding was caught back and three-wide in an evenly run race. Zahra decided to get going early and put Keen Array into the race from the 500m and the five-year-old challenged the leaders at the 150m before fading late. Keen Array is a rung below the top sprinters but is ready to win after three runs back from a spell.

Career record (20:6-3-1).

Race to look for – Listed or Group III races over 1200m.
