Frankel Stallion Wins Christmas Cup

Astute trainer Clare Cunningham seems to have found the key to talented Frankel stallion Significance, who made it three wins from his past four starts when scoring a bold all the way victory in the Listed ATC Christmas Cup (2400m) at Randwick on Saturday.

Raced by Domeland, Significance started his career with John O’Shea, but was transferred to Cunningham after winning only one of his first nine starts.

It’s taken a while for Cunningham to get Significance to peak fitness, but now this big gross stallion is there we’re seeing a very different horse.

He won last Saturday at Rosehill over 2000m and relished the step up to the longer trip and the seven day back up to lead all the way for Jason Collett and win by half a length.
 



“I’m really proud of the horse and thankful for the support of the owners,” said Clare Cunningham.

“There was no set plan to back up after last week, but when I hopped on his back on Monday he was full of himself and then he was more full of himself the next day, so then we galloped him and here he is.

“It’s very satisfying to get that Black Type for a well bred stallion like he is.”

A $1.1million Inglis Easter purchase for Domeland from the Arrowfield Stud draft, Significance was bred by Victorian based Bruce Wilson of Glentree Pastoral and has the overall record of four wins and four placings from 17 starts with prizemoney just shy of $200,000.

Significance was a $1.1million Inglis Easter yearling purchase.

He is the first winner for Aqua Bella (GB), an unraced half-sister by Oasis Dream to stakes-winner Ame Bleue from champion staying mare and triple Group I winner Aquarelliste.

Aqua Bella has a yearling colt by Written Tycoon that will be offered Bhima Thoroughbreds as Lot 54 at Magic Millions and produced a filly foal this spring by Zoustar, but sadly she is her final foal as the mare died in September.

Significance is the 60th stakes-winner world wide for Frankel and is his sixth stakes-winner in Australia joining Mirage Dancer, Miss Fabulass, Hungry Heart, Finche and Frankely Awesome.
