Bonneval named NZ Horse of the Year

Bonneval's victory in Saturday's Group II Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes was surpassed when the mare was named New Zealand Horse Of The Year at a function in Auckland on Sunday.

It was a big night for connections with Bonneval named Horse of the Year, Three-Year-Old of the Year and Stayer of the Year as well as the New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year trophy.

In addition trainers Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman were named Trainers of the Year and Bonneval's dam Imposingly was named Broodmare of the Year.

Bonneval won the Horse of the Year category with 27 votes ahead of Gingernuts on 15 and Kawi and Jon Snow with 10 votes.

The daughter of Makfi is the fourth consecutive Horse of the Year trained by Baker and Forsman after Dundeel and Mongolian Khan (twice), the first filly since 1990 to win both the New Zealand and Australian Oaks, and the first three-year-old filly to be named Horse of the Year since Sunline in 1999.
