Trial Winners for Flying Artie, Hinchinbrook and Capitalist

Mark Smith - Wednesday December 9

The Wilf Mula homebred Flying Tyrol impressed when winning the first of three barrier trials for the two-year-olds at Kembla Grange on Wednesday.

The John Thompson-trained daughter of Flying Artie raced on the outside of the speedy Hollywood Gossip (I’m All The Talk) and the pair singled out. Kept up to her work by Rachel King, Flying Tyrol defeated Hollywood Gossip by three-quarters of a length with further two and three-quarter lengths back to All Machiavellian (All Too Hard).

A daughter of the Listed SAJC Proud Miss Stakes winner Burgeis (Catbird), Flying Tyrol stopped the clock at 0:47.03 the fastest of the three trials.

John Thompson and Rachel King teamed up again to take the second heat with the Hinchinbrook colt Baranof.

The first two out were the first two home as Baranof. Edged out the Winning Rupert filly Hi Hi Hi with the Capitalist gelding Fenton two and a half lengths back in third.

Purchased by his trainer for $90,000 out of the Bell River Thoroughbreds draft at the 2020 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, Baranof is a half-brother to Group II winner and successful sire Rothesay and dual Listed winner and Group 1 placed Sensei.

Ridden by Kathy O’Hara for Gary Portelli, Silver Thorn led at every call to win untouched by three lengths from Godolphin’s Teofilo filly Honeycreeper with the Written Tycoon filly Pinball close-up in third.

A $260,000 purchase by Laurel Oak Bloodstock out of the Fernrigg Farm draft at the 2020 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Silver Thorn is the first foal of the handy filly The Grey Flash who won the Group III SAJC Sires' Produce Stakes.
