Impressive Debut for Teofilo Filly

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday December 1

From the last Australian crop of foals by Teofilo (IRE), who sired Twilight Payment to win this year’s Melbourne Cup, two year-old filly Vianello was featured in a recent ‘Juvenile Trial Watch’ story and made her race day debut at Newcastle on Tuesday with a dominant win.

The James Cummings trained filly jumped well from a wide gate, but was happy to travel deep in the run before surging away after turning for home to win the 900m scamper in a slick 51.18 seconds breaking 33 for her last 600.

Vianello was a length and half clear of two Magic Millions eligible fillies in Ruby Kisses (Flying Artie) and Alice Through (Snitzel).

“To travel up here for a few hours on the float for your first day at the races, she handled it really well and stood there like an old horse that had had five starts,” said stable representative Darren Beadman.

“She has a lot of upside to her.”

A Godolphin homebred, Vianello is a half-sister to stakes-placed Nonpareil and is from stakes-winning Lonhro mare Serenissima, whose next three dams are all stakes-winners – Santissima, Sashed and then Shaybisc -  this family having produced Group I winners Freemason and Mental.

Serenissima died earlier this year and her final foal is a yearling colt by Epaulette.

Teofilo

Vianello looks a bright prospect for Teofilo, who has had a very successful 2020 leaving six Group I winners around the world. The son of Galileo stands at Darley's Kildangan Stud in Ireland at a fee of 30,000 euros in 2021.
