Top bets from The Armchair Punter for Saturday

Stephen Brassel - Friday September 8

We're really starting to hit top gear now with great racing at Rosehill and Moonee Valley and I'm ultra-keen on having a 'sneaky' wager on one at double figures to beat his highly regarded, odds-on stablemate at the Hill.

I'm hoping the namesake of this bay looks just as magnificent at Rosehill on Saturday.

VAUCLUSE BAY (Rosehill Race 3 No 3)
Lost a fair bit of gloss recently after a couple of impressive wins but his latest performance behind stablemate Alward was full of merit and he meets the winner 3kg better here. At the odds I'm ultra-keen to play and if you prefer each-way I reckon he's a bet to nothing plus it's also worthwhile saving on the quinella with the topweight.
BET: WIN
ODDS: $10 @ William Hill ($12 Price Pump), Sportsbet ($12 Power Play), Crownbet, Bet365

GALAXY WARRIOR (Rosehill Race 9 No 16)
Resumes from a spell but trialled nicely hitting the line strongly to win a Mudgee 1000m heat recently. I know that's hardly anything to go by taking on city company, and drawing out wide to boot but when last in work should have won his Country Championship heat at Wellington when beaten narrowly then absolutely no luck and again arguably should have won the Championship Final at Randwick. He's big odds and worth a ticket in what's an even race.
BET: EACH-WAY
ODDS: $23 @ Luxbet

LORD TENNYSON (Moonee Valley Race 3 No13)
Has had no luck at his past two starts and latest run held up behind the leaders and left a bit flat-footed when they sprinted on the turn however still battled away strongly last bit for sixth, only a length behind Cosmic Lights who's a $4.80 second favourite here. Meets that horse 1.5kg better and despite the wide gate happy to give him another chance at succulent odds.
BET: EACH-WAY
ODDS: $17 @ Luxbet, Bet365

HARLOW GOLD (Moonee Valley Race 4 No 7)
Smart mare who showed she has returned in good order when a strong finishing fourth over 1500m around the Valley on resumption. Much better off out to the 2040m here and drawn to get a lovely trail with only 54kg on her back. In the autumn she contested the top fillies races and was invariably thereabouts. She's right in this.
BET: WIN
ODDS: $6 @ CrownBet

LIZZIE L'AMOUR (Moonee Valley Race 8 No 10)
New Zealander having her first local start but primed for this with an absolute ripper of a trial back home. Damien Oliver takes the mount and she's coming off a Group I win in New Zealand at her latest start and also has an outstanding first-up record (3-2-0-1). She's the winner of five from her only 11 starts so she knows how to win as does the Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman yard when they travel one across 'the ditch'. Destined for bigger things this spring so get on now and stick!
BET: WIN
ODDS: $7 @ Ladbrokes ($8 Odds Boost), William Hill ($8 Price Pump), Sportsbet ($8 Power Play)
