Three from Four for Rubick Flyer Mr Mosaic

Mark Smith - Wednesday September 2

Fleet-footed Rubick colt Mr Mosaic has just one blot on an otherwise impeccable record and he was at his brilliant best at Warwick Farm on Wednesday when coming within 1/100th of Snitzerland’s 1000 metres track record.

Ridden by Robbie Dolan for trainers Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou, the handsome 4yo chestnut made every post a winner and showed no signs of back up at the finish in a three and a quarter romp over Akasaki (Nicconi) who was a half-head in front of Junglized (Snitzel).

After winning his first two starts over 1000m at Kembla Grange, Mr Mosaic blotted his copybook when a disinterested last of six over 1000m at Warwick Farm on November 27, which earned him a spell in the paddock.

Off the scene for 40 weeks, he showed he was back on track for his seasonal debut with a pair of impressive barrier trial wins.

“He’s a nice horse who just needed a bit of time through greenness and getting him to settle down but that was a good show of sustained speed today and he showed them a good, clean pair of heels, Alexiou told Sky Racing.

“He was a bit of a lad early doors and wanted to do a lot wrong but he has slowly come around and you are starting to see the real horse now.

“We will just let him work through his grades, whether we stretch him out to 1100m or where we see what 1000m benchmarks there are around but he will win his fair share of races.

Rubick (Mark Smith)

The Smith family homebred is one of four winners from five to race out of the winning Elusive Quality (USA) mare Crazy Quality a daughter of the dual Listed winner Crazy Neaux (Raveneaux).

Mr Mosaic’s highly promising younger brother The Face finished third behind the highflying Anders in the Listed The Rosebud at Rosehill at his most recent start on August 8 after breaking his maiden at his career debut at Gosford on July 25.

Plenty to look forward to as Crazy Quality has a yearling sister to Mr Mosaic and The Face and was covered by Mikki Isle (JPN) last spring.
