Third Stakes Win for Eurozone's Flag-Bearer Krone

Mark Smith - Saturday July 11

So often the bridesmaid, the Tony Gollan-trained Krone earned a well deserved win in Saturday’s Listed Glasshouse Handicap at the Sunshine Coast.

Krone captures the Glasshouse Stakes (Racing Queensland)

Gollan is the third trainer of the 4yo daughter of Eurozone who had recently placed in the Group III Sapphire Stakes at Doomben and the Listed Helen Coughlan Stakes at the same track for the leading Brisbane trainer.

Given the run of the race behind the leader by Taylor Marshall, Krone defied the challenge of Special Missile (Smart Missile) by a long-neck with River Racer (Hidden Dragon) a length back in third.

“She’s been busting to win a race since we’ve had her this preparation,” Gollan said.

“We only put in a late nomination because we were going for the Gai Waterhouse (Stakes) next week and it came up with a small number in it and with the weather looked like it would turn wet and she is a very good wet tracker.

“She has been such a consistent mare her whole career and we were thrilled that Roll The Dice (syndications) gave us the opportunity to train a mare like this and this will be a fantastic addition to her resume.

“She won’t back up next week. She will go for a break now.

“She was entered for the mares sale at the Gold Coast but she will be withdrawn and race on for another year and we will target the Magic Millions mares race in the summer.”

The Glasshouse was the third stakes win for Krone.

The well-travelled daughter of Eurozone claimed the Listed SAJC Cinderella Stakes at two and the Listed ATC Darby Munro Stakes at three and has been stakes-placed a further six times.

A $120,000 Magic Millions 2YO's in Training purchase for Roll the Dice Racing, Krone has been a great success for her big team of owners as she advances her record to 3 wins, 5 seconds and 4 thirds from 20 starts with earnings of $371,550

The 4yo mare been a financial success for all that have been involved with her as she made $30,000 as a weanling in 2017 at the Magic Millions when offered by her breeders Bell View Park and then $60,000 as a yearling when bought by Rosemont Stud at Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the Widden Stud draft.

Eurozone

Krone is the best of two winners from Soft Landing, a half-sister by Al Maher to Group I winner Universal Prince and Universal Queen. She has a 2yo colt by Kermadec that made $40,000 at the Adelaide Magic Millions and a yearling filly by Fighting Sun that failed to make her $40,000 reserve at the 2020 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale.

Not served in 2019, Soft Landing was covered by Sun Stud’s Group 1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere winner National Defense (GB) last spring.

Krone is one of three stakes-winners for the Northern Meteor stallion Eurozone who stands at Bellereve Racing and Breeding Stables in 2020 at a fee of $5,500.
