Few More Honest than Jami Lady who makes it 12 for Spirit Of Boom

Mark Smith - Saturday July 4

As her record indicates, Jami Lady has not run a bad race in her 19-start career so it was a well-deserved maiden stakes win in Saturday’s Listed Bright Shadow Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm for the four-year-old daughter of Sprit Of Boom.

With Boris Thornton in the saddle, the Steve O’Dea-trained mare made her own luck out in front as some of her main rivals battled the carnage back in the field.

I Am Invincible’s $1.3 million earner Fiesta was two and a quarter lengths back in second with a further head back to Pennino (Easy Rocking) who edged out the luckless Love You Lucy (Love Conquers Al) for third.

With her first stakes success, Jami lady advances her record to 7 wins, 4 seconds and 2 thirds from 19 starts with earnings of $445,550.

“She’s built a really consistent record and genuinely deserved to get a black-type win nest to her name,” O’Dea said.

“She’s ben placed in stakes company before. I’ve always thought she is best with some cover, but she has matured now and took up the lea when the speed came out of the race, controlling it from the front and was strong to the line.

“We will head to the Gai Waterhouse (Stakes) now, which will be her first go at a slightly longer trip, but she is relaxing better in her races now and a track like Ipswich will suit her.”

Jami Lady failed to make her $60,000 reserve at 2017 MM March Yearling Sale

Passed in short of her $60,000 reserve when offered by Roona Lodge at the 2017 Magic Millions March Yearling Sale, Jami Lady is the first foal of the 4-time Brisbane winner Bevico Girl (Easy Rocking) who is a great-granddaughter of the Group 1 Western Australian Oaks winner Hasty Departure (Red Anchor).

Purchased by Paul Willets for $18,000 at the 2010 MM Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Bevico Girl has a 2yo filly by Statue Of Liberty (USA0 named Little River who was an $80,000 purchase by  Proven Thoroughbreds/Steven O'Dea Racing at the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale.

After foaling a Pride Of Dubai filly last spring, Bevico Girl was covered by Sidestep.

Jami Lady becomes the 12th stakes-winner for Eureka Stud’s Spirit of Boom who stands the 2020 season at a fee of $44,000.
