Timely Win for Exceed And Excel's Sole Heir

Mark Smith - Tuesday June 23

A half-brother to three stakes-winners including Smart Missile, the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Exceed And Excel colt Sole Heir broke his maiden with a dominant front-running performance at Hawkesbury on Tuesday to provide a timely update for his sister catalogued by Gooree Stud to the 2020 Gold Coast National Broodmare Sale.

With Tim Clark in the saddle, Sole Heir led at every call to defeat his stablemate Marcassin (Spirit Of Boom) by one and a quarter lengths with Mollycoddle (Lonhro) two lengths back in third.

The Gooree homebred was making his fourth start after debuting with a second at Canberra back in November last year before a pair of fourths at Rosehill and Canterbury, the former a hot maiden with Aim defeating Blondeau and King's Legacy.

A half-brother to Group II Todman stakes winner Smart Missile and Listed stakes-winners Surge Ahead and Kiss From a Rose, Sole Heir is the sixth winner from eight to race out of Comical Smile (USA) who is herself a daughter of another wonderful Gooree import, the Fappiano mare Explosive.

A great granddaughter of the breed-shaping Rough Shod, Explosive produced the Group I Coolmore Stud Stakes winner and outstanding stallion Northern Meteor in addition to the dual Group III winner Queen Of The Hill and the multiple Listed winner Rambucka.

Gooree Stud has catalogued Sole Heir’s sister Absolutely Perfect to the 2020 Gold Coast National Broodmare Sale (Lot 518).

After foaling a Shalaa (IRE) colt last spring, Absolutely Perfect missed to So You Think.
