Darryl Sherer - Sunday September 3

A double at Caulfield on Saturday for followers of this column and last Thursday's heats produced further candidates to note.

Mr Sneaky was nominated last week and he resumed with a win in the Benchmark78 Handicap at $9 while Watchmespin has now won two of her three starts after winning the first race of the day at $16.

With spring now upon us some proven performers again looked to trial well, notably Odeon (heat 1), Savile Row (heat 2) and War Legend (heat 6) while Miss Gunpowder defeated Milwaukee in heat three.

Thursday's heats were on the inside grass, starting from the 1400m and jockeys reporting the ground riding in the good(4) range.

Racenet has selected three horses it could pay punters to follow in the coming weeks.

FAITH IN HAND

Three-year-old filly by Fastnet Rock, a sister to Thousand Guineas winner Amicus and now trained by Chris Waller. Jumped on terms wide out in heat three then settled behind the speed without any pressure. Travelling comfortably off the bend and running up behind the first five without being asked for an effort, beaten 4 1/2-lengths in 48.81 seconds. Showed ability in her three races and she should have little difficulty winning her maiden.

This looks a strong heat, won by the Lindsay Park Racing-trained Miss Gunpowder over the Bendigo Guineas winner Milwaukee and marginally the fastest heat of the morning.

Career (3-0:1:1)

HOLBIEN

Unraced three-year-old gelding by Pierro out of the Irish Group III winner Carribean Sunset, trained by Steve Richards. A step slow to begin from the inside before gradually mustering speed in heat seven. Came through under mild urging to join the Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra-trained pair of Sword Of Justice and Crystal Wings off the bend and came away to score by 1 1/2-lengths in 49.16 seconds over Crystal Wings with the Lindsay Park Racing-trained Luqyaa one length off third. A three-quarter brother to Lovani, Holbien has plenty of scope for physical improvement.

Career (Unraced).

IRISH VEGA

Unraced three-year-old gelding by Lope de Vega and trained by Anthony Freedman. Travelled strongly all the way in heat four, shared by the Tony McEvoy-trained Tan Tat Flame and the Levi Kavanagh-trained Blinky O'Reilly in 49.07 seconds. Allowed to balance up early then still on the bridle before the bend as others came under pressure. Went to the line still under a good hold from Mark Zahra and beaten two lengths.

Career (Unraced).
