Husson's Vanna Girl Captures the Pam O'Neill - What a Little Beauty She Is

Mark Smith - Saturday May 30

Following her last start win in the Doomben Guineas we reported that the three-year-old Husson (ARG) filly Vanna Girl is building an imposing record and is among the most underrated horses going around, which she confirmed once again with a fast-finishing win in the inaugural running of the Listed Pam O’Neil Stakes (1600m) at Doomben).

With Brad Stewart standing in for the injured Matthew McGillvray, Vanna Girl had a troubled run and still had plenty to do in the final 200 metres to run down the Sydney filly Celestial Falls, but when this Toby and Trent Edmonds-trained filly begins to roll she takes some holding off.

Vanna Girl steamrolled over the top of Celestial Falls (Hinchinbrook) to win by a half-length with Al Jood (Al Maher) a neck back in third.

“She’s a really good filly, she very versatile can be on the speed, come from the back, has a great turn of foot,” Toby Edmonds said.

“Trent and I spoke about it this morning about staying to the mile. We were a bit concerned about that but we train her that way to keep her sharp enough.

“She’s only a baby and is heading the right way. She’s got a good future and will furnish as a 4yo.

“She done a great job and we will decide if we head to the Doomben Roses or whether she has a little break if we head to Melbourne, we will talk about that over the next week or so.”

“She’s not regally bred but the mare is such a good broodmare who also had Plucky Girl a daughter of Pluck who was so good for us and this one is by Husson and they are great racehorses.”

A bargain $40,000 purchase by Edmonds Racing out of the Vinery Stud draft at the 2018 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, Vanna Girl advances her record to 6 wins and 2 seconds from 9 starts with earnings of $269,800.

She is the fifth winner from six to race out of the talented Redoute’s Choice mare Logan’s Choice who was a $250,000 Easter Yearling out of the Dehere (USA) mare De Souba a half-sister to the outstanding, triple Group 1 winner Naturalism and the Group 1 Queensland Oaks winner Crystal Palace the dam of the dual Group II winner Palacio de Critstal.

Vanna Girl is a half-sister to the stakes-placed Plucky Girl (Pluck) another great stalwart of the Edmonds stable who banked over $308,725 from a record of 8 wins, 7 seconds and 4 thirds from 23 starts

Logan's Choice has a yearling filly and a weanling colt by Star Turn.

Vanna Girl is one of 16 stakes-winner for Aquis Farm’s Husson (ARG) who will cover this year at just $5,500.
