Vega Magic ($2.25 fav) enjoyed an unchallenged lead and was untroubled to defeat Black Heart Bart ($6) to score by 1 3/4-lengths with Tosen Stardom ($15) a short half head away in third.

This is what the jockeys thought of the performance of their ride in the Memsie Stakes.

VEGA MAGIC

Craig Williams

He was very good today - I think he's the first horse to lead into the wind and still win. When the pace came out of the race it suited my horse, he relaxed in front, quickened well and ran all the way through the line.

BLACK HEART BART

Brad Rawiller

Sensational run. The winner just had it too easy in front and we had to get going early to give ourselves a chance. His 400 to the 200 was incredible but Vega Magic just got it too soft in front.

3rd

TOSEN STARDOM

Blake Shinn

Outstanding run. The pace just wasn't there for him but he hit the line strongly. I think he's not far off winning a big one.

HEY DOC

Luke Currie

He got a bit keen mid race - he's just got to learn to relax a bit better. He got a touch tired late but he did a good job.

5th

LE ROMAIN

Ben Melham

He ran really well, he probably felt the track a little bit. He'll be better with that run under his belt and he'll be better over 1600m at Flemington.

6th

JON SNOW

Stephen Baster

Went super, he ran very well and he'll be better for the run and over further.

7th

I AM A STAR

Luke Nolen

She ran sound in a race that was dictated in front.

8th

HUMIDOR

Mark Zahra

He ran super - he was that relaxed I nearly had to wake him up in the gates. I reckon his last 200m was pretty slick.

9th

YANKEE ROSE

Dean Yendall

She went good.

10th

SINGLE GAZE

Kathy O'Hara

Really happy with her the way the race was run. It didn't suit her but happy with her run.

Last

SEABURGE

Regan Bayliss

He was disappointing.
