Better Days Ahead for These Two Sons of Redoute's Choice

Mark Smith - Wednesday April 29

Redoute’s Choice supplied two impressive winners at Warwick Farm on Wednesday and interestingly one was out of a VRC Oaks runner-up and the other out of an ATC Australian Oaks winner.

China Horse Club colour-bearer Sciconic looks to be putting it together making it two in a row after breaking his maiden at his most recent start at Nowra.

The son Savabeel’s Group 1 VRC Oaks runner-up Dowager Queen was strong at the end of 2400 metres under an inspired ride by Jean Van Overmeire.

The 3yo, Richard and Michael Freedman-trained gelding was a $250,000 Magic Millions Yearling.

He is the third foal and third winner out of Dowager Queen who was purchased by Baramul Stud for $710,000 from the Kitchwin Hills draft at the 2012 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.

Dowager Queen has a promising 2yo Fastnet Rock filly named Queen Of Rocks who was a $410,000 Lindsay Park purchase at the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.Nash Rawiller celebrated the AJC Oaks win of Once Were Wild image Mark Smith

After foaling an Exceed And Excel filly last spring, Dowager Queen was covered by Trapeze Artist.

The lightly raced 4yo gelding Bold And Wild made it three wins on the trot in a benchmark 70 over 200 metres.

Ridden by Nash Rawiller, the Bjorn Baker-trained gelding was strong to the line in defeating Zakat (Lonhro) by a short-neck with Live The Moment (Pierro) a long-neck back in third.

Rawiller also guided Bold And Wild’s dam Once Were Wild to victory in the  2010 Group 1 AJC Australian Oaks.

A homebred for John Singleton’s Strawberry Hill Stud, Bold And Wild advanced his record to three wins from five starts with earnings of $55,940.

“He has had one or two niggles but his last win at Hawkesbury had to be seen to believed, so he is up to much better grade than this if we can just have a smooth run with him,” Baker told Sy Racing.

“Singo and the team have been very patient with him. If we can get him up to 1400m or a mile the further he gets the better he will go so he is an exciting horse going forward.”

A brother to the Group III Summoned Stakes (1500m) winner Long Time Ago, the son of Redoute's Choice is third winner from the first three foals out of Singleton’s 2010 Group 1 AJC Australian Oaks heroine Once Were Wild (Johannesburg).

Once Were Wild had a Not A Single Doubt colt that was purchased for $525,000 by Tom Magnier at the recent Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, and has a colt foal from the final crop of Redoute’s Choice.
