Qld Winter Racing - Who's In, Who's Out

Breednet - Sunday April 12

The Brisbane Winter Carnival is back, in a fashion, a great result given it was abandoned completely a few weeks back so here are the races that are in, and the ones that are out, including six Group Ones.

Only two Group One races will be held, The Stradbroke Handicap for the open horses and the J.J. Atkins for the two-year-olds, both with sizeable prizemoney reductions.

The Stradbroke drops to $350,000 from the pre-Coronavirus $1.5million, while the Atkins drops to the same $350,000 from its original $600,000.

Six Group One races will not be held in 2020 now - Doomben 10,000, Doomben Cup, Kingsford-Smith Cup, Queensland Oaks, Queensland Derby and Tattersall’s Tiara.

Racing Queensland have announced new protocols for the movement of horses between zones and from interstate which will allow those outside the respective zones to compete for the black type.

You can see the protocols here.
