Top bets from Paul Joice for Saturday July 29

Paul Joice - Saturday July 29

With odds ranging from a $2.50 favourite to a $36 outsider – Saturday's Rosehill meeting is sure to be an interesting one.

D'ARGENTO (Rosehill Race 1 No 4)
He looks like a good horse, trialled like a good horse then won like a good horse. I suspect he's a very good horse. D'Argento is a grey colt by So You Think and comes out of the Chris Waller stable. Given plenty of time, Waller produced him at Newcastle on debut when he overcame a serious mid-race check to gun down a heavily supported runner (Smartedge) from the Snowden stable. There was a gap to the third horse and whilst we haven't seen the formline develop yet – I'm confident it will. Bowman rides from a soft draw and the early money has already arrived. Jump on now with the PowerPlay – you won't get better odds on raceday.

CLEAR THE BEACH (Rosehill Race 2 No 4)
You know what you are going to get if you take the $3.80 Clear The Beach – a great run for your money. Drawn the inside gate, Christian Reith will bounce this in-form four-year-old out of the gates to lead. The pressure could come from Akasaki, Wide Acclaim, Parker's Piece or Quantrill – but Reith won't hand up. Carried 57kg and absorbed pressure to win around this route in this grade four starts ago. Gunned down late over the 1200m here last time behind Pick Me Up and Mana (subsequent winner). The final 25m might have you looking for the winning post but at $3.80 the odds look right to me.
BET: WIN

INSENSATA (Rosehill Race 3 No 2)
I love betting in set weights races so was rapt to see this race programmed and even more rapt to see Insensata turn up. She's the highest rated three-year-old in the field and still has plenty of upside. Sprinted off a slow tempo to win as she liked around the 1350m here last time to make it five wins from her past eight starts. Connections of Arbeitsam have opted for this race which injects pace/pressure – that will play right into the hands of Adam Hyeronimus aboard the flying Insensata. Good thing.

ALLUVION (Rosehill Race 5 No 1)
This is my speculator on Saturday. Put two impressive wins together last campaign at the provincials which was enough for trainer Scott Singleton to venture south for the William Crockett Stakes at Moonee Valley. Had no luck there (typical Valley), then given a long spell. Resumed without a trial against the boys at Warwick Farm and after settling last worked home to finish only 2-1/2 lengths behind Kings Of Leon/Spending To Win. That midweek form has been franked, she can only strip fitter and most importantly drops back to three-year-old fillies grade. Drawn wide in what looks a fast-run affair, but if she gets some luck she can knock these over at massive odds.
BET: EACH-WAY
ODDS $26 @ Sportsbet ($36 PowerPlay)

CLASSIC UNIFORM (Rosehill Race 7 No 4)
An unusual occurrence here with 10 of the 12 starters all coming through the Winter Stakes two weeks ago. Classic Uniform turned in a huge run there, worked hard three and four wide off the outside gate and was only beaten two lengths on the line. That was second-up so should strip fitter and from gate one is expected to bounce straight into the leading role. Can't see any serious pressure so Tim Clark should have a picnic on pace and I don't think there is much between this lot – so the best run should win the race. Quinella pick is Gold Symphony – he was also luckless in the Winter Stakes.
BET: WIN
ODDS $8.50 @ Bet365
