Magic Millions Trifecta G1 Sires Produce Stakes

Media Release - Sunday April 5

Million dollar yearling purchase King's Legacy emerged as Australia's newest hot young stallion prospect with a brilliant come from behind win in the Group One ATC Sires' Produce Stakes (1400m) at Randwick.

King's Legacy leads a Magic Millions G1 triefcta Last early, King's Legacy knuckled down over the concluding stages under Hugh Bowman to reel in the leader Prague in the shadows of the post for a most impressive victory.

Continuing the trend of the country's feature juvenile contests in 2020 the ATC Sires' Produce Stakes provided a clean sweep trifecta result for youngsters sold by Magic Millions.

"It's very pleasing on so many levels," co-trainer Paul Snowden said of King's Legacy. "He was an expensive yearling and now he's gone on to be a Group One winner."

"We gave him that time after the Magic Millions (2YO Classic). We got a berth into the (Golden) Slipper and I thought he was a pass mark at Rosehill on that day."

"The next day, going in to see him, he was as happy as larry - bouncing of the walls. He was always going to be better at seven furlongs and hopefully in a couple of weeks over a mile he's even better."

"It's the constitution he's shown right from day one. He was one of those early two-year-old types up and running before Christmas and he's carried his form right the way through."

"The trip away (defined him) - his toughness with the hard racing and he's got the attitude to go with it - that certainly helps," Snowden added.

The trip Snowden refers to was King's Legacy's sunny sojourn to Queensland during the summer in which he won the Group Three BJ McLachlan Stakes before running a classy fifth in the The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

Today's win provided champion Sydney jockey Hugh Bowman with yet another success in a race he's tasted victory in a number of times.

"I was surprised with the pace early," Bowman said after the win. "I didn't expect to be last - he gave me so much confidence going to the barriers."

"I sat on this horse about six weeks ago and I said to the Snowdens after I rode him that I've found a good horse here and they said - yes he's first up into the Golden Slipper."

"He'd already proven himself but the stable felt he needed beyond 1200 (metres) and that's why they started him off first up there."

"To James Harron and to his team for identifying these exciting young colts - he's so well bred and he's now a Group One winning son of the great Redoute's Choice."

"You saw his will to win today," Bowman added. "Prague, who is superb colt in his own right, had the race shot to bits but I was on a horse than wanted to win and wanted to win bad and he had the ability to do it."

King's Legacy, a son of former Arrowfield Stud based champion sire Redoute's Choice, was a $1.4 million buy for leading bloodstock agent James Harron for a colt syndicate at last year's Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

The colt, from the three time stakes performed Hussonet mare Breakfast in Bed, was bred and sold at the Gold Coast by Segenhoe Stud.

Interestingly King's Legacy family includes superstar sires Not a Single Doubt and Snippets who like King's Legacy were sold through the famous Gold Coast sale ring.
