One to Watch – Pakenham

Tara Madgwick - Thursday April 2

Former classy Group II winning filly Fontein Ruby posted her first winner at Pakenham on Thursday bringing a timely pedigree update for her current yearling filly by Fastnet Rock that will be offered by Coolmore at Inglis Easter.

Prepared by Mick Price and Mick Kent Jr, three year- old Fastnet Rock gelding Steamboat Rock improved on his two recent second placings to score a determined victory at his fourth start in the 1600 metre maiden.

He was strong to the line for Michael Walker beating the favourite Theee One by a neck.

A $350,000 Inglis Easter purchase or his co-trainer Mick Price from the Coolmore draft, Steamboat Rock is the first foal and first winner for Fontein Ruby, a Group II winning half-sister by Turffontein to Group I winner The Mitigator.

The family also features dual Cox Plate winner Fields of Omagh, so it’s not surprising Steamboat Rock likes a slightly longer trip and may even appreciate further.

Coolmore will offer his full sister as Lot 452 and she’s pictured below.
