Impressive Victory for Rock My Wand

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday April 1

Newgate Farm’s Wandjina has the favourite for the Group I ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes at Randwick this Saturday in Golden Slipper place-getter Mamaragan and also had a runaway two year-old winner at Rosehill on Wednesday when Rock My Wand won as she pleased.

The Matthew Smith trained filly had been placed at  her three previous starts in good company including a close third beaten a length and a quarter to subsequent Group III ATC Magic Night Stakes winner Thermosphere.

Wandjina is the sore of Rock My WandWith race fitness and experience on her side, Rock My Wand started favourite and was ridden a positive race by Jason Collett surging forward to stalk the leader and then racing clear to win by four and a half lengths.

A modest $20,000 Inglis Classic purchase for her trainer from the Gainsborough Lodge draft, Rock My Wand runs for a big group of stable clients and has already banked over $50,000 in prizemoney.

Rock My Wand is the third winner from Rose of Montana, a half-sister by More Than Ready (USA) to Group II winner Montana Flyer and full sister to Group II placed Montana Sunset.

She is the 24th winner this season for Wandjina, who has a growing list of smart winners headed by Mamaragan, who won the Group II ATC Skyline Stakes on debut last month before his gallant third in the Golden Slipper.
