California Zimbol Highlights Loving Gaby Form

Tara Madgwick - Saturday March 21

With a memorable win over subsequent dual Group I winner Loving Gaby in Melbourne last spring, I Am Invincible filly Cailfornia Zimbol always looked a great chance to win the Listed ATC Darby Munro Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on Saturday and duly lived up to expectation.

The Peter and Paul Snowden trained filly improved on her first up third placing at the same venue two weeks ago, finishing with a well timed run for Brenton Avdulla to win by a neck.

“She showed her class today,” said Paul Snowden.

“She had that Loving Gaby form in the spring, so I think if we place her carefully now, we’ll get a good result.”

A $450,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Asian Bloodstock Services from the Yarraman Park draft, California Zimbol has the overall record of four wins and three placings from eight starts with prizemoney just shy of $350,000.

Foaled and raised at Yarraman, California Zimbol is a half-sister to stakes-winners From Within and Cruden Bay being the fifth winner from five to race from the good producing Anabaa (USA) mare Zimaretto.

Yarraman Park sold a yearling colt by Astern from Zimaretto at Magic Millions earlier this year for $725,000 to Asian Bloodstock Services, so he will also race for Hong Kong based owner Mr Liang as does California Zimbol.

The half-brother by Astern to California Zimbol sold for $725,000 at Magic Millions 2020
