$170,000 Pride of Dubai Filly Tops MM Gold Coast March

Media Release - Tuesday March 17

A filly by Australia's leading first season sire Pride of Dubai topped the 2020 Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale today when selling for $170,000.

$170,000 Pride of Dubai filly from Fiery DeePresented as the second lot in the ring on Day Two of the sale, the chestnut filly was purchased by Grant Morgan's Ontrack Thoroughbreds and will soon be a stablemate of star three-year-old Alligator Blood.

A half sister to four winners including the group performer Looks Like the Cat, the Pride of Dubai sale topper was sold through the draft of River Junction.

"She's the best QTIS filly offered at any sale this year," Morgan said. "The sire Pride of Dubai is going outstanding and she's a great type."

"From all of the mare's foals this filly is the most like the Cat (Looks Like the Cat)."

"I'm thrilled to be able to buy her," Morgan added. "She will head to David Vandyke."

Edmonds Racing and Kestrel Thoroughbreds teamed up later in the day to buy the Pierro-Pegasus Miss filly offered by Lyndhurst Stud Farm for $120,000.

The filly is a half sister to stakes performer Boomstress and is from a half sister to stakes winners Metallic Crown and Snitzepeg.

Another filly to sell for six figures was Lot 272 - the Better Than Ready-Kiss for Gran youngster presented by Alexia Fraser Bloodstock.

The filly is the second foal for Kiss for Gran - her first, Kisukano won Saturday's $500,000 Aquis 2YO Jewel across the road at the Gold Coast Turf Club beating the hot favourite Rothfire.

Kisukano's Toowoomba based trainer Michael Nolan secured the half sister for $115,000.

Across the two day auction over $7.78 million was traded on 273 lots sold at an average price of $28,529 and a growing clearance rate of 73 per cent.

"To conclude this year's sale with the figures we have is a great result for the Queensland breeding industry," Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch said.

"The buyers got in and, although selective, bid strong on the quality lots and to end with a clearance rate of over 73 per cent is a pleasing result with all things considered."

"To everyone that played their part in the sale in very trying circumstances - we thank you for your cooperation, support and understanding."

"The Magic Millions team and everyone around them had to quickly adapt to what were unprecedented circumstances and an ever changing landscape," Bowditch added.

The top price among racehorses was $77,500 paid for the lightly raced Cathars by Victoria's A List Stud.

The top 12 priced horses at this sale were consigned by Godolphin.
