The Australian Studbook have released statistics on the busiest sires in 2019 with nine stallions covering 200 plus mares and the most popular of them all being the same horse that topped the list last year.
Based at Coolmore Australia, Rubick was the busiest sire in 2018 covering 263 mares and covered only one less in 2019 at the increased fee of $38,500.
Newgate Farm’s Deep Field was second in 2018 and also held the same spot in 2019 at an increased fee of $44,000.
These two young guns are the front runners in the second crop sires division, Rubick leading by earnings courtesy of his Everest winner Yes Yes Yes and star filly Rubisaki, while Deep Field is the leader by winners.
Widden Stud’s Trapeze Artist was the busiest first season sire covering 180 mares which might surprise a few people given his service fee of $88,000, with Yulong Investment’s first crop horse Grunt also super popular covering 178 at $13,750.
Swettenham Stud’s Toronado (IRE) was the busiest Victorian sire covering 197 mares at $27,500, while Lyndhurst Stud’s Better Than Ready was the most popular in Queensland covering 216 mares at $33,000.
