Another Exciting 3YO for Rubick

Tara Madgwick - Saturday March 14

Just a week after Rubisaki posted her first Group II victory in the VRC Kewney Stakes, her sire Rubick was back in the frame with another bright prospect after Excess Funds completed a long-term plan for his young trainer Levi Kavanagh when winning the $500,000 Inglis Dash (1100m) at Caulfield.

Kavanagh purchased Excess Funds for $85,000 at the 2018 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, where he was offered by Moobi Farm.

“It’s not often a plan comes off but I targeted this race a long way out and it worked out perfectly today,’’ Kavanagh said.

“A big thanks to the team back home, it’s a huge boost to the stable.

“We’ve got a lot of friends and family and good clients involved so it’s great for everybody.

“I wanted to have him ready for this race and now we’ll probably head to Adelaide for the carnival, there’s some nice 3YO stakes races there.”

Already stakes-placed, Excess Funds has won three of nine starts earning over $360,000 in prizemoney.

He is the best of two winners from Save a Penny, an Exceed and Excel metro winner from the family of US Group I winners Groovy and Boston Harbor.

Rubick also posted a new stakes horse earlier in the day at Caulfield when two year old Masseuse ran a brave second in the Listed MRC Redoute’s Choice Stakes (1000m).

The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace trained filly has now had two starts for two seconds so a win cannot be far away.
