Stakes Goals Next for Pride of Dubai’s Maha

Tara Madgwick - Friday March 13

A homebred for Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, as was her dual Group I winning sire Pride of Dubai, two year-old filly Maha made it two wins in as many starts when racing clear for an easy victory at Moonee Valley on Friday night.

Trained by Tony and Calvin McEvoy, Maha won her first start at Bendigo last mont at long odds but confirmed her potential with this dominant performance.

She led for home under Mick Dee and dashed away to win the 1000 metre dash bymore than two lengths.

“She can be hard work, but she has so much raw ability and is improving all the time,” said Calvin McEvoy.

Pride of Dubai is the leading Australian first season sire by earnings and winners“She’s unbeaten now, two for two, and there a couple of nice stakes races coming up in Adelaide for her.”

Maha is certainly bred to go fast being from the all-conquering Black Caviar family.

Foaled at Coolmore, Maha is the first foal of unraced Fastnet Rock mare Makrooma, a half-sister to stakes-winner Glad and to the dam of stakes-winner Exuberant, her dam McHappy being a half-sister to Group II winner Scandinavia.

The descendants of Scandinavia include World Champion Sprinter Black Caviar, Champion 3YO All Too Hard, Group I winner and Group I sire Magnus as well as this season’s stakes-winning 2YO’s Ole Kirk and Hanseatic, who was second in the Group I MRC Blue Diamond Stakes.

Makrooma was covered again last spring by Pride of Dubai, who is the leading Australian first season sire by earnings and winners.
