The top bets from Clinton Payne for Saturday

Clinton Payne - Saturday September 2

Being honest with you – I'm not overly excited about Saturday as a betting day as those that I'm keen on are firm enough in markets but if you must, here you go.

I'll be having a stress-free day at the races on Saturday.

BEAU GESTE (Randwick Race 1 No 3)
There's plenty of exciting prospects coming out of the Godolphin stable at the moment as you would expect and I reckon this bloke is up there with the best. Prior to his debut his trials indicated he was better than average and when he stepped out on raceday at Canterbury, he made the handy Last Starfighter look second rate when he dropped him over the final 50m. His trials leading up to this have been as good as his previous efforts and I quite like the fact he's kicking off at 1300m, because I think he's a really strong colt.
BET: WIN
ODDS $2.90 @ CrownBet

UP 'N' ROLLING (Randwick Race 2 No 8)
No luxury in the price but I expect him to win. Couldn't have been any more impressive winning in good style first-up when trouncing Wednesday's midweek winner Notio. Last prep he only had the two runs and his second-up performance, which has had more than its share of publicity since the race, had to been seen to be believed. This is a rise in class on Saturday but he's a horse with plenty of upside, I don't think he's anywhere near his level in the handicaps. From the inside gate he gets all the favours and will take some stopping.
BET: WIN
ODDS $2.05 @ Sportsbet, CrownBet, Bet365, William Hill, Palmerbet, Unibet

LE ROMAIN (Caulfield Race 7 No 2)
He's one of our best weight-for-age performers and he's as tough as they come. The first-up run was full of merit and the horse that beat him might be something pretty special herself. The Memsie has secured a genuine Group I class field but I'm confident Le Romain can get the right run to show what he's made of. I also think there's less questions to be answered by Le Romain here compared with the other main chances – Black Heart Bart pulled up lame after the first-up run, Vega Magic at 1400m? Hey Doc on debut in weight-for-age and Yankee Rose has been off the scene for almost a year.
BET: WIN
ODDS $6.50 @ CrownBet, Luxbet, Bet365, Unibet

INVINCIBLE GEM (Randwick Race 8 No 7)
The thing about this mare is I don't think anybody truly knows where her bottom is. I've spoken to Kris Lees about her numerous times over the past six months and she's one of those horses that keeps pleasantly surprising him, not in a dissimilar way to the how Le Romain did during his autumn three-year-old campaign. On Saturday, Invincible Gem lines up against Group I-class opposition in a race disguised as a Group II and she looks to get a lovely run over a trip she's perfectly suited to. She's not getting under my guard again.
BET: WIN
ODDS $4.40 @ Sportsbet, Luxbet, Bet365

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS (Randwick Race 9 No 7)
Quality galloper that will take plenty of stopping after having zero in the luck department last start. His first-up win showed what he's capable of when producing a turn of foot that only the good ones possess. The less said the better about his last run but I'm confident with a clear run he'd have been declared the winner. Stays at 1400m for this event and it is a drop in grade off his last effort. Kerrin McEvoy jumps back aboard and he's capable of setting the record straight with a clear path.
BET: EACH-WAY
ODDS $2.10 @ Sportsbet, Bet365
