Godolphin Blueblood Wins Canberra Guineas

James Cumming was expected to win the Listed Canberra Guineas (1400m) on Monday with race favourite Knickpoint, but at the end of the day it was the second string runner Promotions that claimed the victory.

Exceed and Excel is the sire of PromotionsA progressive gelding by Exceed and Excel, Promotions was having his first run back off a little freshen up and hit the line hard to overpower Deep Field gelding Chat to win by a neck.

“He’s a very laid back horse, but when he got out he really put it to the other horse,” said stable representative Darren Beadman.

“I think there are better wins in store for him and James was talking about the Carbine Club Stakes (G3) over the carnival as an option for him.”

A homebred for Godolphin, Promotion has won two of nine starts and over $100,000 in prizemoney.

He is the first foal of well bred Street Cry (IRE) mare Transfers, whose dam Movin’ Out was a $2.2million Inglis Easter yearling back in 2007 when bought by Woodlands Stud.

By champion sire Encosta de Lago, Movin’ Out is a half-sister to stakes-winner Murjana and to the dam of Group I winner Gathering coming from the Twyla branch of the famed Shantha’s Choice family that has produced Group I stars Redoute’s Choice, Manhattan Rain, Platinum Scissors and more recently Shoals.

Transfers has a two year-old colt by Exceed and Excel called Transformations, a weanling filly by Astern and was covered last spring by Harry Angel (IRE).

Promotions is the 167th stakes-winner for Exceed and Excel and is his ninth Australian stakes-winner this season.
