Stakes-Winner Sangria Brings Inglis Easter Update

Tara Madgwick - Saturday March 7

Blue-blooded I Am Invincible filly Sangria has shown plenty of ability in her career to date and managed to translate that into Black Type success at Flemington on Saturday when taking out the Listed VRC Incognitus Stakes (1100m) bringing an important pedigree update for her Inglis Easter bound half-sister.

The Peter and Paul Snowden trained filly over-raced and did plenty wrong when unplaced at her previous run in the Group II ATC Light Fingers Stakes, but she relished the Flemington straight and scored a brave short half head in a thrilling finish for Glen Boss.

“She’s a beautiful filly, a cracking type,” said Glen Boss

“She likes to carve out fast sectionals but she likes do it on her own, so I was happy to stay out in the middle and she just got into her routine and kept going.”

Sangria is building a tidy record with four wins from seven starts and prizemoney topping $170,000.

Purchased by James Harron Bloodstock for $650,000 out of the Newgate Farm draft at the 2018 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale for Fairway Thoroughbreds, Sangria was foaled and raised at Newgate and is the result of a massive spend by Newgate and partners at the 2014 Teeley Asset dispersal.

Sangria was a stunning yearlingNewgate outlaid $1,500,000 for Sangria's stakes-placed dam Quench The Thirst (Encosta de Lago) and also purchased her sister Precious Lorraine for $1,500,000 and half-sisters Your Lifestyle (Hussonet) for $1.200,000, Café Scientific (More Than Ready) for $650,000 and Princess Narine (Red Ransom) for $600,000.

They are all daughters of Redoute's Choice's stakes-placed sister Monsoon Wedding whose half-sister Ten Carat Rock (Rock Of Gibraltar) also went the way of Newgate for $750,000.

Quench the Thirst  has a yearling filly by Snitzel that will be offered by Newgate as Lot 152 and she has a filly by Merchant Navy to follow. Last spring she was covered by Russian Revolution.

Sangria is the 53rd stakes-winner for I Am Invincible and was the second leg of a stakes double for Yarraman Park’s champion sire on Saturday as he also had Dame Giselle win the Group II ATC Reisling Stakes, read about her here.
