A “gorgeous’’ Street Boss filly with a strong Victorian flavour topped today’s inaugural Showcase Session at Oaklands, bringing an end to a highly successful Premier Yearling Sale.
Lot 627 (Street Boss x Irish Teardrop) sold to Melbourne trainer Clinton McDonald for $180,000 from the Rosemont Stud draft, offered on behalf of GB Thoroughbreds’ Daniel Gangi and Simon Bilalis.
“There were plenty of people waiting around to buy her, that’s for sure, and she was worth the wait,’’ Rosemont’s Anthony Mithen said.
“She was for great clients of ours who have been great supporters for four or five years now and this is such a good result for them, one of their best results. They were in tears afterwards, they were rapped which is fantastic.’’
McDonald knew from the first day of inspections she was a filly he wanted to take home with him.
“She stood out, she’s a lovely filly,’’ McDonald said.
“Street Boss’ mares have only gotten better and he’s a stallion that’s going somewhere so I’m thrilled to be taking this filly home.”
The Showcase Session’s second-top lot was a Winning Rupert x Call Me Sachi colt, selling to Upper Bloodstock for $175,000 from the Woodside Park Stud draft.
It capped a sensational Premier Sale for Woodside, who sold all 22 of their yearlings offered across the three days at Oaklands.
“We’ve sold everything, it’s been a great week for Woodside and a great week for the Victorian industry over all really. It’s a quality sale all round,’’ Woodside’s James Price said.
“The Winning Rupert colt, he’s a wonderful physical, he paraded like an absolute superstar and paraded at the end of the week exactly how he did at the start of the week.
“He’s got a wonderful walk, he never turned a hair, never got upset, grumpy, it’s hard not to like him.’’
Today’s Showcase Session ended with an average of $45,788, a 32% increase on last year’s Premier Book 2.
At the conclusion of today’s action, the Premier Book 1 clearance rate had jumped to 82% with an average of $127,864, a 10% year-on-year increase.
Across the three days of selling, 236 lots sold for $100,000 or more, up from 192 for the sale last year.
“It’s been a very satisfying week at Oaklands for both vendors and buyers,’’ Inglis’ General Manager of Bloodstock Sales and Marketing Sebastian Hutch said.
“The market has again proved to be extremely resilient at all levels and that is testament to the quality of yearling that has presented at Oaklands these past three days.’’
“A number of the metrics pay great compliment to the participants in the sale, but I think the figure that stands out is the growth in the gross figure of over $4.7m year on year.”
“The clearance rate is now in excess of 82% for the Premier Session and we will be looking to work with vendors and buyers to place further passed-in lots over the next few days.”
