One to Watch – Tamworth

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday February 25

As we head towards the 2020 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale where he has nine yearlings on offer, Swettenham Stud’s young High Chaparral sire Toronado (IRE) gave us a ‘One to Watch’ on Tuesday from the stable of Melanie O’Gorman.

I'm on Break as a yearlingSecond and fifth at his first two starts last spring, good looking three year-old I’m On Break resumed from a spell at Tamworth on Tuesday and gave nothing else a chance when bolting away to win the 1000 metre maiden by four lengths.

“He’s not really bred to be winning over 1000 metres but it’s nice to get that one out of the way,” said Melanie O’Gorman.

“We bought him as a breeze up horse, but he really just needed more time so I kept him and I think we’ll now have a lot of fun.”

A $45,000 Inglis Premier purchase for O’Gorman Racing from the Swettenham Stud draft, I’m on Break is the third winner from Lanesborough, a Redoute’s Choice three-quarter sister to Group I winners Blackfriars and Larrocha, Group II winner Manton and stakes-winners Waterford Road and Lions Gate.

Given the classic stamina of his female pedigree, the fact he can win at over a sprint distance would suggest I’m on Break has a very bright future.

Toronado has nine entries for Inglis Premier and you can see them here.
