50th Winner for Deep Field

Tara Madgwick - Monday February 17

Newgate Farm’s Deep Field added a new to his tally on Monday to hit 50 winners for the season which is no small achievement for a second crop sire, whose oldest progeny are three year-olds.

Deep Field has sired 50 winners this season.Deep Field has had six winners in the past seven days including promising two year-old Hancora Field, who has won twice this month at Eagle Farm and the Sunshine Coast already earning over $116,000 in prizemoney.

Another of his smart two year-olds is talented colt Nitrous, who was beaten a short neck in the Listed VRC Talindert Stakes at Flemington last Saturday and has earned nearly $150,000 in prizemoney.

Deep Field is fresh from a highly successful Inglis Classic Yearling Sale where he finished as the leading sire by aggregate in Book 1 with 20 yearlings generating $2,832,000 at an average $141,600 with six colts selling for $200,000 or more.

He also had the top priced horse of the entire sale with his colt from Raheights made $380,000 for Torryburn Stud to the bid of Hong Kong trainer Ricky Yiu.

Deep Field is currently the leading sire of three year-old winners in Australia ahead of sires such as I Am Invincible, Fastnet Rock and Snitzel and his profile in Hong Kong is also on the rise thanks to recent impressive Hong Kong winner Californiadeepshot.

Deep Field had his service fee doubled last year rising from $22,000 to $44,000 and covered a whopping 256 mares so breeders obviously felt he was well worth the money and his achievements over the summer would justify that view.
