Casino Prince's Sweet Deal Puts Them to the Sword in Triscay Stakes

Mark Smith - Saturday February 15

Trainer John Thompson has set some lofty goals for Sweet Deal after the daughter of Casino Prince made it four wins from her last five starts with a two and a quarter length romp in Saturday's Group III Triscay Stakes (1200m) at Randwick.

With Nash Rawiller in the saddle, Sweet Deal led at every call to defeat the outsider Spiritual Pursuit (Snitzel) with Pohutukawa (Medaglia d’Oro) a length back in third.

"She's a mare that has just got better with age and has just grown in confidence and Nash is riding her with confidence," Thompson told AAP.

"She is probably better on top of the ground too.

"Mares, if they're going well, they're going well."

Though she is in the form of her life at present the 5yo daughter of Casino Prince has shown she is well above average from the first time she set foot on a racetrack.Sweet Deal a $67,500 Inglis Classic yearling

As two she was third on debut in the Group III Widen Stakes before finishing second to Frolic in the valuable Inglis Classic. But it took until the $160,000 Group III Tibbie Stakes (1400m) at Newcastle for her to breakthrough at stakes level and Saturday’s Triscay Sakes triumph was her first start since.

Thompson said Sweet Deal would most likely make her next starts in the Guy Walter Stakes in a fortnight with the Group 1 Coolmore Classic next month her ultimate goal.

Purchased by Boomer Bloodstock (FBAA) for $67,500 out of the Lincoln Farm draft at the 2016 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, Sweet Deal advances her record to 8 wins, 6 seconds and 2 thirds from 29 starts with earnings of $621,370.

She is the best of two winners from as many to race out of the Sydney winning Royal Academy mare Dorothy Evelyn, who hails from the family of Group 1 West Australian Derby winner Chipolata.

Dorothy Evelyn was pensioned in 2018 after producing a full-brother to Sweet Deal, which was just her fourth live foal.
