Redoute’s Choice Stayer Wins Torney Night Cup

Tara Madgwick - Friday February 14

The Listed MVRC Torney Night Cup (2500m) at Moonee Valley on Friday evening was won by progressive Irish bred Redoute’s Choice gelding Dabiyr (IRE).

Now with Chris Waller after beginning his career in Ireland with three starts for Dermot Weld back in 2018, Dabiyr raced up on the pace and scored a half length win over his stablemate Vaucluse Bay, the pair starting joint favourite in the long distance staying test.

It was the fifth win for Dabiyr from 13 starts and his first in a Black Type race.

Bred by the Aga Khan and now raced by Victorian syndicator Brad Spicer and a large group of owners, Dabiyr is the best of four winners from Dabista, a Highest Honor mare from the family of Darshaan.

He is the 172nd stakes-winner for champion sire Redoute’s Choice, who shuttled to France for several seasons late in his career.
