Not a Single Doubt Colt Breaks Happy Valley Course Record

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday February 12

This time last year Not a Single Doubt colt Stronger was contesting Golden Slipper lead ups and 12 months on he’s broken the ice in sizzling fashion at Happy Valley for his new trainer John Moore.

A $1,050,000 Inglis Easter purchase for James Harron Bloodstock from the Arrowfield Stud draft, Stronger was third in the Group II ATC Pago Pago Stakes to Cosmic Force and fourth to Bivouac and Libertini in the Group III ATC Kindergarten Stakes.

Having his fourth run in Hong Kong on Wednesday night, Stronger stalked the leader and zoomed clear to win the Class Three sprint over 1000 metres by a length and three-quarters.

His time of 56.11 seconds established a new course record.

“He wasn’t cheap because he’s a good looker and he’s still an entire because he’s got a great disposition. George and I actually bid on him back when he was a yearling but we stopped because he ended up going for about AU$1.1 million,” Moore said.

“He’s a handy horse otherwise he wouldn’t be in Hong Kong. He’s here because they (the previous connections) didn’t see a lot of upside but we hope we can take him well up into Class 2 and then into the bottom of Class 1. I still think there’s some upside.”

A half-brother to stakes-placed Tiger Silk, Stronger is the best of two winners from Star Pupil, a half-sister by Starcraft to Group III winner Bachman and stakes-winners Stepitup and Aint’nofallenstar.

Recently retired from stud duties, Not a Single Doubt is enjoying high demand in the sale ring this year and after terrific results at Magic Millions was the leading sire by average at Inglis Classic earlier this week.
