Swettenham Seek Immortality with Invincible Son

Constructing an appealing stallion roster for a respected and successful commercial farm that seeks to offer something for everyone is no easy task and Adam Sangster had the feeling something was missing at Swettenham Stud, until now.

I Am Immortal - image Grant CourtneyThe roster last year included Victoria’s busiest sire Toronado (IRE), top class European shuttlers Highland Reel (IRE) and Sioux Nation (USA) as well as progressive sires Akeed Mofeed (GB) and Puissance de Lune (IRE).

“We’ve got a great line up of sires, but I always felt we needed a fast colonial horse with real precocity to compliment the horses we already have and I Am Immortal fits that profile to a tee,” said Adam Sangster.

“He was a very fast, early going two year-old that won the Blue Diamond Preview (1000m) on debut and the Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) at his second start.

“That natural speed and trainability is what the market wants and this horse is everything his pedigree dictated he would be.”

By champion sire I Am Invincible, who is already a proven sire of sires through Brazen Beau, I Am Immortal is from brilliant Group II winner Meliora and is a three-quarter brother-in-blood to I Am Invincible’s slick front running stakes-winner Whypeeo, who hold a stakes victory over Group I winner Pierata.

“His mother Meliora led all the way when she won the Angus Armanasco (G2) and raced away to win by nearly four lengths, so it’s very much an on pace speed family,” Sangster pointed out.

“When you go through her pedigree it’s not hard to see why. Her sire Ad Valorem was a Champion 2YO, her grand-dam is by Fasliyev, another Champion 2YO and the next dam is by Warning, yet another Champion 2YO.”

Combining those diverse electric bloodlines with the power of I Am Invincible was always going to produce a fast sprinter and I Am Immortal will be given his chance for further success during the autumn by his trainer Anthony Freedman.

A close second when resuming from a lengthy break in the Listed WH Adams Stakes (1000m) at Caufield at the start of the month, he will progress towards the Group I MRC Oakleigh Plate (1100m).

The full brother to I Am Immortal made $650,000 at Magic Millions 2020 when bought by Katsumi YoshidaI Am Immortal was bred by Yarraman Park, who sold his full brother earlier this year at Magic Millions for $650,000 to Katsumi Yoshida and Meliora is back in foal to I Am Invincible, so there is no doubt this potent genetic mix is one that has much more to offer.

“He’s a lovely individual and very true to type standing 16.1 hands and with no Danehill blood in his pedigree will be a very appealing horse for breeders looking towards the future and races like the $1million Showdown,” Sangster continued.

“Prince of Sussex won the inaugural Showdown last year sired by our Toronado and we’d like to think I Am Immortal would be the perfect sire to consistently produce the sort of precocious two year-olds trainers can target towards such lucrative races.”

I Am Immortal’s service fee will be announced after Easter, while limited shares are also available as he enters his stud career.
