Mosheen's Daughter Strikes for a Third Time in a Group Three in Japan

Mark Smith - Tuesday February 11

With runners out of top-class mares Mosheen (Fastnet Rock), King’s Rose (Redoute’s Choice) and Melito (Redoute’s Choice), Sunday’s Group III The Tokyo Shimbun Hai (1600m) on the turf at Tokyo racetrack had a distinctly Australian flavour, and it was Promo Scene, the daughter of 4-time Group 1 winner Mosheen, that came out on top.

Ridden by Mirco Demuro, Promo Scene travelled sweetly three pairs back on the rail and when the daughter of Deep Impact saw daylight in the straight she finished determinedly to defeat Shadow Diva )Heart’s Cry) by half a length with a nose back to Kurino Gaudi (Screen Hero) followed by King’s Rose’s son Satono Arthur (Deep Impact) in fourth just ahead of Kluger (King Kamehameha), who split Winx and Hartnell in last year’s Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick.

The last two winners of the Shimbun Hai have been Horse Of The Year, Lys Gracieux and dual Group 1 winner Indy Champ.

It was the third Group III win for the Tetsuya Kimura-trained Primo Scene who went winless in five starts in 2019 although she put in a career-high when second in the Group 1 Victoria Mile won by Normcore.

Her overall record stands at 4 wins, 3 seconds and 1 third from 14 starts with earnings of 202,100,000 ($A2,737,000).

The 5yo daughter of Deep Impact is the second foal of the Fastnet Rock mare Mosheen who finished second to Sepoy in the Golden Slipper at two and won the Group 1 Victorian Oaks, Group 1 Australian Guineas, Group 1 Randwick Guineas and Group 1 Vinery Stakes at three.

Mosheen, who hails from the family of former champion Australian racehorse Might And Power, has a 3yo colt by Deep Impact named Mawson Peak, who made just one start last year, a 2yo filly by Duramente and yearling filly by champion sprinter Lord Kanaloa.

She was covered by the Arrowfield Stud shuttler Real Steel (JPN) last year.
