Australian Cup Plan for Miss Siska

Tara Madgwick - Saturday February 8

She might be a half-sister to champion sprinter Hay List, but So You Think mare Miss Siska prefers a longer trip and claimed her first Black Type success at Caulfield on Saturday with a much-deserved win in the Group III MRC Carlyon Cup (1600m).

Miss Siska has had several trainers in her career to date, but is now with Grahame Begg, who may well coax the best from the talented six year-old.

Having her first run since a busy spring campaign that saw her finish second in both the Group II VRC Matriarch Stakes and Group II MRC Sandown Classic, Miss Siska was sent out favourite and duly delivered for punters.

She tracked the leaders and forged clear to win by more than a length taking her overall record to seven wins and seven placings from 25 starts with prizemoney just shy of $600,000.

Miss Siska is by champion racehorsee and leading sire So You Think“She had great residual fitness from last spring having run the last three weeks of the carnival,” said Grahame Begg.

“We’ll head to the Australian Cup with her as her record at Flemington over 2000 metres is very good having been beaten only a head the last two years in the Matriarch Stakes and she’ll probably have one more run leading into that.”

A homebred for the Davenport family, who also bred and raced $2.5 million earner Hay List, Miss Siska is the second stakes-winner among six winners from now retired producer Sing Hallelujeh.

She is the 24th stakes-winner for So You Think and is his seventh in Australia this season.

So You think has six entries for Inglis Classic, click here to see them.
