First Stakes Win for Well Bred Darci Brahma Mare

Media Release - Thursday February 6

Five-year-old mare Sinarahma landed some valuable black-type when taking out the Listed Property Brokers Wairarapa Thoroughbred Breeders' Stakes (1600m) at Tauherenikau on Thursday.

The New Plymouth conditioner prepared Sinarahma’s dam, Shez Sinsational, to win four Group One races and believes the lightly-tried mare has plenty more to come.

“She was dominant today and I am probably looking forward to next year more than anything,” Sharrock said.

“She will go to the Cuddle Stakes (Gr.3, 1600m), but I said to Emma (partner) before the race that I think the Livamol Classic (Gr.1, 2040m) next season is her race.

“She is just maturing and she is the first foal of the mare and is not that big. She is going to be a better six-year-old than a five-year-old.

“I think it is the best I have had her. She never turned a hair on the trip. We stayed at Woodville last night and she ate and drank everything.”

Sent out a $3.30 favourite, Sinarahma was ridden to the letter by Sam Collett, having overcome the widest gate in the 11-horse field.

The talented mare has now won five of her 13 starts and Thursday’s victory was her first stakes success.

Lightly-tried, Sinarahma did not race until she was four after battling kissing spine as a three-year-old.

“It was disappointing because I thought she could have been an Oaks filly as a three-year-old, but sometimes you’ve just got to wait for them and patience usually pays off,” Sharrock said.

Shez Sinsational won a dozen races for Sharrock and a loyal group of owners and the majority share in the ownership of Sinarahma.

“We leased Shez Sinsational to race, with the right to the first foal and Wellfield Lodge purchased her after that,” Sharrock said.

“It is the same owners as Shez Sinsational, except Dad is deceased and my brother Bruce is in with Tony Kemp, the former rugby league player.

“We bred this filly together.”

Wellfield Lodge sold a Savabeel half-sister to Sinarahma at last week’s New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sales for $420,000 to the bid of Glenn Cotterill. – NZ Racing Desk
