Juvenile Trial Watch – Randwick

Tara Madgwick - Thursday February 6

There were plenty of interesting juvenile barrier trials at Randwick this morning, including a heat winner with a full brother headed to Inglis Classic and the reappearance of disgraced $2.8 million Snitzel colt Mount Fuji.

Stunning to Win was the most expensive yearling from the first crop of Widden Stud’s Outreach, and she has a full brother to be offered at 2020 Inglis Classic next Monday.

A $180,000 Magic Millions purchase for Snowden Racing from the Widden Stud draft, Stunning to Win runs for well-known Sydney owners Trevor Stucky and Penny Yan.

She was having her second trial and did everything right, jumping well from the inside gate to hold the fence and lead throughout under a hold to win by three-quarters of a length.

She is the first foal of well bred mare Queen of the Nile, a half-sister to $5million earner and five time Group I winner Mummify and to the dams of Group winners Ottoman and Take Pride.

Widden Stud will offer the second foal of Queen of the Nile, a colt by Outreach as Lot 394 at Inglis Classic and he is pictured below.

The very next heat was won by Wandjina colt Mamaragan, but there was probably as much or more interest in the place-getters Postcode, who was second in the Breeders Plate and Mount Fuji, who was looking for redemption following a disastrous debut that saw him finish a distant second last at Randwick on January 25.

Well fancied on debut, Mount Fuji pulled hard and gave nothing, so it was no surprise to see him well restrained here by Tommy Berry and then asked to hit the line which he did well enough. Click here to watch and judge for yourself the merit of his performance.
