First Australian Bred Winner for No Nay Never

Tara Madgwick - Sunday February 2

Already the sire of 20 stakes-winners worldwide, Scat Daddy’s first son to stud No Nay Never (USA) posted his first Australian bred winner when the Te Akau owned two year-old Need I Say more scored an impressive debut victory at Matamata in New Zealand on Sunday.

Need I Say More was an impressive debut winner - Race Images Kenton WrightTrained by Jamie Richards, he went to the post favourite and led all the way to win the 1100m maiden by a commanding two lengths.

A comprehensive trial winner last month, when he defeated Saturday’s Group III Woburn Farm 2YO Classic (1200m) winner Bonita Aurelia, Need I Say more gave nothing else a look in after taking control of the race from barrier rise.

“There has always been a little question mark around this horse because he has just been so lazy around home,” Richards said.

“Get him out here when the speakers are going and put a set of blinkers on him and he really wakes up.

“He’ll be back here in three weeks for the Slipper (Group III, 1200m).”

The Group III Waikato Stud Slipper (1200m) is the feature race for the two-year-old colts and geldings on Matamata Breeders’ Stakes Day at Matamata on February 22.

A $130,000 Karaka Book 1 purchase for David Ellis from the Kilgravin Lodge draft, Need I Say More was a successful pinhook having been sourced from the Burnewang North draft at the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale for $65,000.

He is the first foal of winning Fastnet Rock mare Bo Bardi, a daughter of imported US stakes-winner Our Golden Dream (USA), who is by Medaglia D’Oro.

The second foal of Bo Bardi is a Dissident filly that will be offered by Stockwell Thoroughbreds as agent at Inglis Premier as Lot 549.

A runaway success for Coolmore in the Northern Hemisphere where his fee has been set at 175,000 euros for 2020, No Nay Never was back in Australia for Coolmore last spring and covered 83 mares at a fee of $44,000.
