Karaka Book 1 Pinhook Winners

Tara Madgwick - Sunday February 2

The Karaka Book 1 Sale last week enjoyed a strong middle market that fuelled a good level of success for pinhookers with 10 horses all achieving a profit of $100,000 or more and the two best results coming out of the same draft at the 2019 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale.

Leading the way for Koru Thoroughbreds was a Medaglia D’Oro (USA) colt from Razeena that was sourced from the Aquis draft at the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale at the Gold Coast for $150,000. He was bought by Chris Waller/ Mulcaster Bloodstock for $360,000.

The same Aquis draft at the Gold Coast also produced the next best result with an Artie Schiller (USA) colt from Masarrah bought for $37,000 and then re-offered by Curraghmore making $180,000 when knocked down to DGR Thoroughbreds.

He had an interesting pedigree update as his grand-dam is a half-sister t the dam of New Zealand’s boom 3YO Catalyst.

Aquis had a hand in the third most successful pinhook as she was sired by their first season sire Divine Prophet from Startina. She was a $60,000 Karaka May Sale purchase for Hllmark Stud from the Koru Thoroughbreds draft and then made $180,000 for Hallmark when bought by Liam Birchley for Archer Park Racing.
