Stakes-Winning Return for Hinchinbrook’s Mildred

Tara Madgwick - Saturday February 1

A busy and successful juvenile in the spring when she won two of three starts, the Grahame Begg trained Hinchinbrook filly Mildred picked up where she left off at Caulfield on Saturday when scoring a stylish victory in the Group III MRC Chairman’s Stakes (1000m).

She jumped straight to the front for Jordan Childs and made light of the heavy ground and persistent rain to beat another spring stakes-winner in Aryaaf by a length.

“She’s a real professional and makes my job easy,” said Jordan Childs, who rode the filly in all three of her spring races.

“It’s good for her to come back and do it again. She’s grown and strengthened up.”

Grahame Begg was thrilled with the win given he believes she has plenty of improvement to come.

“We thought she might have been underdone today, although her work this week was encouraging,” he said.

“We’ll probably run her in the Talindert in two weeks time as she goes so well up the straight at Flemington.”

Mildred as a yearlingA modest $45,000 Inglis Classic purchase for Neville Begg from the Middlebrook Valley Lodge draft, Mildred has won three of four starts already returning over $242,000 in prizemoney.

Middlebrook Valley Lodge will present another quality draft at Inglis Classic 2020 and you can see their horses here.

Mildred is the fourth winner from stakes-winner Tempest Tost, a half-sister by Statue of Liberty (USA) to Group I winner Notoire and stakes-winner Well Known.

The current yearling from Tempest Tost, a colt by Deep Field, sold for $400,000 at the 2020 Magic Millions bought by Patrick Lee.

Mildred is another star performer for Yarraman Park’s ill-fated sire Hinchinbrook, whose last yearlings are being offered at sales this year with 18 of them entered for Inglis Classic next week and you can see them here.
