The Memsie Stakes will be Melbourne's first Group I contest of the season and carries $1 million in prizemoney for the first time.

Last year's winner Black Heart Bart will carry the number one saddlecloth and shares top billing with Le Romain in the handicapper's rating on 115.

Black Heart Bart is one of three Darren Weir-trained runners in the Memsie Stakes along with the Australian Cup winner Humidor and Tosen Stardom.

Kiwi trainers Murray Baker and Andrew Forsmann will start ATC Australian Derby winner Jon Snow's spring campaign in the Memsie Stakes while the Lindsay Park team will have the favourite Vega Magic.

Saturday's meeting also features the Group III HDF McNeil Stakes (1200m) for the three-year-olds as well as the Group III Cockram Stakes (1200m) for mares.

Saturday's program starts at 12:25pm (AEDT). The track was rated a good (4) at acceptance time while the rail will be in the six-metre position for the entire circuit.

Wednesday: Light shower or two. Max 14.
Thursday: Sunny. Max 17.
Friday: Partly cloudy. Max 18.
