Spotlight on New Zealand Sires in Karaka Book 2 Opener

Media Release - Wednesday January 29

On the opening day of Book 2 at New Zealand Bloodstock’s 94th National Yearling Sale Series, Australian Bloodstock agent John Foote continued his spending spree off the back of a strong Book 1 Sale.

$160,000 Per Incanto colt from MakkuraFoote took out the leading buyer title on Day One purchasing today’s highlight, Lot 726 a $160,000 Per Incanto colt out of Makkura from the draft of Little Avondale Stud.

New Zealand-based sires have provided all three of the top Lots on Day One, with Australians present in the buying bench.

Guy Mulcaster secured the second-top Lot of the day, Lot 775 a $130,000 Contributer (ex Parvati) colt out of the Landsdowne Park draft.

Breeder Kieryn Tapper was extremely pleased with the outcome.

“It means a lot to me, my goal two years ago was to breed and sell a $100,000 yearling.

“It’s brilliant that Guy Mulcaster has picked him, he has excellent judgement and I look forward to following him in the future,” said Tapper.

The third top Lot (793) was again purchased by John Foote, a $115,000 Darci Brahma colt out of Polynesia from the Highview draft.

Highview claimed the leading vendor title on Day One of Book 2, after selling 11 horses for a total of $477,000.

The second day of Book 2 will commence tomorrow morning at 11am, with Lot 821 to 1040 going under the hammer.

All horses purchased at Karaka this week are eligible for the lucrative Karaka Million Series with two $1 million races available for graduates as two and three-year-olds, plus the CollinsonForex Karaka Cup for the duration of their career. Nominations must be received by 5pm Tuesday 3 March 2020.
