$12,000 Scone Yearling is Transforming This Pedigree Page

Mark Smith - Saturday January 25

Group III Grand Prix Stakes (2200m) winner Fun Fact blitzed his opponents over 2000 metres at Rosehill on Saturday, which is good news for Ian Smith’s  Edinburgh Stud who will offer a half-brother by So You Think at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, but it is this tweet by Peter Twomey that really caught my eye.

Fun Fact’s dam Fill The Page (Dane Shadow) was a $12,000 purchase at the 2009 Scone Yearling Sale and was purchased by Edinburgh Park Stud four years later for $26,000 at the 2013 Inglis Australian Bloodstock Sale and wow has she transformed the pedigree page.

Originally trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott and now in the stable of Bjorn Baker, Fun Fact took his earnings to $371,905 with six wins and six places from 27 starts.Fun Fact was a $240,000 yearling

Consigned by Edinburgh Park to the 2017 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Fun Fact was knocked down to Spendthrift Australia for $240,000, which made him the most expensive yearling sold in Australia by the former Newgate Farm resident The Factor (USA).

He is the second foal and second winner out of the Listed Canberra Cup winner Fill The Page.

The first was the talented So You Think gelding Tamasa, a Melbourne winner of five races who finished third in the Group III RJ Peters Stakes at Ascot last November before a midfield finish in the Group 1 Railway Stakes.

Still plenty of time for this pedigree to develop further, as after two years of disappointment, Fill The Page has a yearling colt by So You Think  going to Inglis Easter as Lot 443 , a colt foal by Merchant Navy and was covered by Pierro last spring.
