Deep Field Double

Tara Madgwick - Thursday January 23

Two metropolitan winners in two days for Deep Field with Texas Forever saluting at Canterbury on Wednesday followed by a stylish debut winner from the David Vandyke stable at Doomben on Thursday.

Cotton Fields as a yearlingThree year-old filly Cotton Fields was a well backed favourite for the fillies and mares 1200 metre maiden and delivered the goods for punters.

She settled behind the leaders and forged clear in the straight to win by a length and a quarter in a promising performance.

A modest $30,000 Magic Millions National Yearling purchase from the Torryburn Stud draft, Cotton Fields is the second winner from two foals to race from Medusa, a Stratum half-sister to stakes-winner View the Stars from a big international Black Type family.

Torryburn Stud will offer a brother-in-blood to Cotton Fields at 2020 Inglis Classic with Lot 295 being a colt by Deep Field’s full brother Shooting to Win from Medusa.

Newgate Farm’s Deep Field is still holding on to the lead as Austalia’s leading sire of three yea-old winners ahead of champion sires Fastnet Rock, I Am Invincible and Snitzel.
