$1.6 million Redoute's Choice Colt Sparkles on Debut

Mark Smith - Friday January 17

Phoenix Thoroughbreds and Aquis Farms $1,600,000 two-year-old Redoute’s Choice colt Prague made his first repayment at his career debut at Canterbury on Friday night.

Travelling strongly for Tommy Berry, Prague tracked the pacesetting Sidestep colt Easy Campese to the turn, eased around that colt just after turning to put two lengths on him at the finish with the Press Statement colt Spokesman a long-head back in third.

It continues a wonderful run enjoyed by the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace stable with their juveniles.

Berry said the team were expecting a forward showing by the second most expensive lot at the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

“It was a nice start to his career but we expected that as he has impressed us at home,” Berry told Sky Racing.

“His first trial was nice and strong, the second I would have liked him to chase the winner a little bit more than he did so that’s why the winkers went on today to sharpen him up a bit.Prague a $1.6 million yearling

“He jumped and travelled really well today, pushed out on the corner and put them away quite quickly.

“He’s a real athlete, very clean winded although he is doing everything on raw ability at the moment. You’ll see the best of him in three months time.”

Bred by G S A Bloodstock, Prague is a half-brother to dual Group 1 winner and young Widden Stud stallion Stratum Star.

He is the sixth foal of the lightly race Pins mare Purely Spectacular who was purchased by Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock for $300,000 on behalf of Jonathan Munz at the 2015 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.

Also the dam of the multiple stakes-placed winner Serenade (Star Witness), Purely Spectacular is a sister to the Group 1 ARC Diamond Stakes runner-up Raid and is a great granddaughter of the champion Emancipation.

You would need some serios coin to own the two winning two-year-olds from the 17th crop of Redoute’s Choice. The other is King’s Legacy who clocked in as the third top priced lot of the 2019 Magic Millions when purchased by James Harron Bloodstock for $1.4 million.
